Steinberg is an area near Lake Achensee which has an 18 kilometre ski trail. It is a remote area, and so not really suitable to stay in, but can be accessed by bus from Archenkirch to the start of the trail. Or via the other end of the route to ski there and back.

There is a very good network of buses which link Steinberg am Rofan with Buchau , Achenkirch , Pertisau , Maurach and Wiesing, some meaning a change of bus at Maurach. You can find a link to the bus information website on the main Achensee page .
Ascent 140m
The trail runs slightly uphill towards Rofanlifte II and snakes past the Silberwaldhutte into the meadows and scattered settlements of Steinberg. The trail is recommended for experienced cross country skiers with short climbs and descents.
Ascent 160m
This track leads from Steinberg am Rofan to Achenkirch. It is a long and demanding route which passes through wooded areas and wide-open meadows, and is an intermediate track which gives a peaceful escape for nature lovers. There is also an option to take the black route at the end instead of the red. Catch the bus to Steinberg and ski back to Achental. From here you can either ski the Achenkirch town track back (see information on that page) or catch the bus.
You can also combine it with the Pulverer Mahd trail after about 4 kilometers of the route. The trail runs, interrupted by a short climb in the third left, gently sloping towards Achenkirch.
Ascent 132m
This easy circuit of skating leads past the Steinberg festival hall, over a forest path to the start of the village and back near the road to the starting point.
This difficult cross country track can be combined with the Gufferloipe and is part of the powdered Pulverer Mahd Runde..
The demanding circuit through the woodland starts at the Parkplatz Waldfrieden. After the first third there is a long climb and is recommended for experienced cross country skiers.
At the end of the Guffert ski trail there is a lovely hotel restaurant and pizzeria called Hotel Beretta . It has a varied menu and excellent pizzas which are pretty large! They even have a take-away service is you wish to take one back to your apartment.
