LONG DISTANCE SKI TRAILS
From time to time it's nice to cross country ski something a little more adventurous, so here are a few ideas of hut to hut tours and longer routes that take several days. Some have hotel options and others are a little more basic. Some may require off track skis and techniques. But all of them, I am sure will give you a trip to remember!
This trail is approximately 90km long and stretches from Dalseter to Lillehammer. It's named after a Norwegian hero written about by Henrik Ibsen. In winter the route becomes a cross country ski trail which can be broken up over several days with accommodation stops.
The Troll Trail, Norway
The Troll Trail ('Troll-løypa' in Norwegian), is a famous continuously marked ski trail in Norway, traversing over 165 kilometres through untouched nature.
The starting point is Høvringen, in the Rondane mountains, next to the National Park, and the trail runs south via the mountains of Ringebu to the Olympic town, Lillehammer.
The terrain is varied and relatively easy, without steep mountains and peaks to climb. Some sections have a remote 'Arctic' feel about them, whilst others cross frozen lakes and pretty forests with views of nearby peaks.
