The nordic ski area of Les Saisies is in the Savoie (Savoy) region of France, and was the host of the 1992 Olympics. It is one of the highest and most extensive cross country ski areas in Europe. The 120 kms of trails are located on a plateau at 1,600 - 1,750 metres and venture through forests and clearings. Known as Little Norway, Les Saisies boasts a northern atmosphere, but with sunshine, daylight and views of Mont Blanc, as it literally sits at its feet. If you tire of skiing you have 45 km of snowshoe tracks as well as other options. There is also an excellent biathlon stadium.

Tracks at Les Saisies are open from the second week of November through to late April thanks to a unique and eco-friendly snow storage process developed in Scandinavia, enabling the storage of 12,000 m3 of snow well before the arrival of winter. Surplus snow, harvested at the end of the previous season, is covered with a clever mixture of sawdust to preserve it from the elements. The aim of the game is to enable the opening of a 3 km cross-country ski trail in the Nordic ski area, from 11th November onwards.
